Creating Custom Toolbars

With Workflows 3.1, you can create your own toolbar with all of the functions you regularly use in one place. Here’s mine. It includes functions from both the Cataloging and Circulation toolbars, and cuts out all the functions I don't or can't use. Instructions on how to create your own are posted in the Technical Services folder on the MAIN Staff Page.

Items sent for repair

There is now a user with the ID of REPAIR and a user profile of Repair. When you send an item to Tech Services for repair, check it out to the REPAIR user. The item will be checked out to the REPAIR location. It will show in the catalog as "Being fixed/mended", will not appear on a pick list, and will be cleared when it is either discharged or checked out. At this time, the due date will be the same as the item's normal date, so there will be an overdue generated if it has not been repaired before the system sends a notice. Tech Services should discharge the item before sending it back to the shelf.

New Staff at the Lake Hiawatha Branch

I’d like to introduce the newest member of the Lake Hiawatha Staff, Anitha Steventon.

Anitha will be working at the Lake Hiawatha Reference Desk on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and every other Saturday. She will be coming to us after a day at the
Wyeth Consumer Healthcare Information Center and Library. While her professional experience is as a Special Librarian, Anitha has public library experience gained as a page at the Maplewood Public Library during her high school years.

Please join the folks at the Lake Hiawatha Branch in welcoming Anitha to the family.

A New Way to Get the Word Out

I have started this blog to give us one place where all of us can go to find out about the latest goings-on at the library. Anyone can comment on any posting. If you would like to post news to the blog, send me an email. I will send you an invitation to set up an account and add you to the list of contributors.

Ordering Staff Books

Technical Services can order books and audio books for you through Baker & Taylor. You will receive the same discount we get when we order for the collection. You can place an order by giving Tech Services the title and ISBN. You can also order it yourself by creating a cart in Title Source 3.

If you create a cart, make sure that it is a grid cart and that you use the Instant Books account. Make sure that you put your name and branch in the notes for each title. Your name will not be on the order slip unless it is in the notes. The name of the cart does not print on either the order slips or the confirmations.

Once you are done, go to View/Edit and make the cart Shared and Closed. You do not have to enter a date. We will then order the cart.

Once the book is received, you will be notified of the discounted price. Payment needs to be by check, made out to the Parsippany-Troy Hills Library.
